ABOUT THIS SITE
Benefits of Classroom Technology
This site serves to educate visitors on the benefits of integrating technology in the classroom. I will be highlighting how I use technology as well as different tactics to use these tools during lessons.

MY PHILOSOPHY
Technology in My Classroom
EQUITABLE USE
Inside of my classroom all students have equal access to any device I plan to use. This usually takes the form of school provided laptops and also includes students knowledge about operating a device. In the case of the laptops I use some time at the beginning of each year to teach my students how to use their computers. This includes activities like logging in, saving a file, creating a folder, and how to search the internet. If we are using a new app/program I will use a few minutes
ETHICAL USE
Students in my classroom learn the importance of ethical use from the beginning. We first discuss plagiarism and how to give credit to an online resource we use. Alongside this we work on how to properly represent ourselves online. This means how we communicate with others, what we post, and how to format an email. Discussing the threat of viruses and malware comes up during our lessons on browsing the internet and students learn how to distinguish a suspicious website from a safe one.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Social responsibility is a large part of my education on technology use. I explain to students that technology advances so quickly in todays world that regulations and laws cannot keep up. Thus, it is our responsibility to make sure we are making positive contributions to our online communities and not using technology in nefarious ways. We also explore several websites that are a force of positive change on the internet such as Kiva, GoFundMe, and other donation style websites.
